First up in this big house that the Off the Mat Into The World Staff and Alums are sharing this week at Wanderlust. It's a really sweet ski chalet, the kind I would never stay in, but it's off-season and there are 17 of us splitting it, so affordable, fun and cushy!
The wildfires are not too far from here, and so there is a gentle smoky haze everywhere - it's a little disconcerting, especially for flatlanders like me who don't take to the two-mile high climes easily. Last night the walk from the site back to our place - all uphill, but only about a quarter mile, took me a panting half hour.
Can't wait to see how that translates into yoga and pranayama! Today begins the festival, and I'm excited to be taking a class from Suzanne Sterling - she's going to "Sing Us Awake" and if you know her, that is no idle promise.
To the point, though: I'm here to serve. To continue with my Seva and to continue to build, foster and co-create community - on the mat and off of it. So, I will be working the OTM booth, where we will share information on how the Intensive served us, how it enabled many of us to align with our highest and best, and to become more conscious and more active. I'm really excited for what we'll be working on today - just launched at WL in Vermont this past month.
YOGAVOTES - yup, maybe you do, maybe you don't. Not about guilt (I never want someone to feel guilty about doing yoga - but I want them on the mat the next chance they have).
YOGAVOTES is a non-partisan (read that again, I know we all operate on assumptions and do our own 'profiling' so let's be clear) organizing effort to increase voter registration, increase voter turnout and to provide values and issue-based insights - not guidance, but information - on how to 'exercise your franchise!"
Of course, we're going to have fun, and play and challenge folks lovingly - and I know we'll meet some resistance, but any noble effort includes friction and persistence! So, check out the links above and go online and register with us.
Already registered to vote? Great! Then please just pledge to vote with us. By pledging, you allow us to begin to stand up and be counted as a constituency, and we believe the community of yogis to be some 20 Million strong!
These are interesting, dynamic and troubled times we live in. In my opinion, apathy and the cult of 'me first' has lead us here. Most everyone I talk to is discouraged with the political landscape. Well, I'm discouraged about poverty, human trafficking, disproportionality and the like - to disengage on those fronts is to deny my humanity and my piece of godhead. Even the absence of evil does not make good - good must be created, and sustained.
Join us - go to the site, check it out, talk it up - if you're inclined, become a leader in your community (info on the site) - all the cool kids are doing it!!
And, of course, please come out to Wanderlust in Tahoe, end of the month, or just do some yoga in your world!!
Give thanks and praise!!
