"Yo, Yogi, Spin that Wheel!"
Samsaras - Birth, Death and Rebirth in the Asanas
Before Shiva became the Lord of the Dancers, he was simply Sava – the corpse. It was love, desire and purpose that put the breath of life in him…
Once we are established in the asana practice, we have to start examining how and why we use this system; to what end are we practicing? Are we simply working to be healthy animals living longer, feeling great and looking good at death, or are we ultimately using the practice to investigate our mortality and how we move towards our actual final resting pose? No one gets out of this one alive.
Our practice often takes the trajectory of a lifecycle; we might start in Child’s Pose, slowly gain stability on all fours, move into standing and more vigorous peaking poses, and gradually move back towards the Earth, ultimately ending in Corpse Pose. Finish this by coming through Fetal into seated meditation, and we’ve created a metaphor for the path of our lives.
Da Vinci wrote, “As a well-spent day brings happy sleep, so life well used brings happy death.” Ultimately, while your yoga practice helps support a more vibrant and intentional life, it is also here to prepare you for an elegant and liberating end to that experience. Through asana we prepare the body for the higher states of sensory focus, mental focus, and bliss – this is the fertile place for us to examine how we can live a life worth dying for.
This workshop will begin with a brief discussion for foundation, move into vigorous flows, moving meditations, challenging and long-held poses, meditation, pranayama and of course, a sweet and supportive Savasana.
Appropriate for all levels – no effort is ever wasted: bring a towel, we’ll flow until we glisten!

"Vinyasa Playground"
A workshop incorporating arm-balances and inversions into playful flows
Arm balancing and inversions can be very fun, and playful, and allow us to break through limitations, if we can find foundation, then engagement, the expression will come. Being able to incorporate some of these playful elements into a flow can provide for extra challenge or new perspectives on our practice.
We’ll build solid and juicy flows, and then briefly workshop on options. As we move back into dynamic flowing, there will be many opportunities to play and incorporate. Add some spice, some variety, visit some poses you may not experience in your practice, and change it up!
This workshop will include discussion, preparation, specific work on several arm balances and inversions, and then an opportunity to combine these components into a challenging and rewarding flow practice focused on playfulness, experimentation and fun.
Flow experience helpful, but for anyone who can put a smile on their face while being challenged. Bring a towel; you’ll need it!

"Rock your Bak & Flip your World"
A Workshop on Arm Balances & Inversions
Arm balancing and inversions can be two of the most elusive and seemingly difficult components of our practice. Practiced incorrectly they can be sources of injuries and actually limit your practice. That said, they can be very fun and playful, and allow us to break through limitations, if we can find foundation, then engagement, the expression will come.
With a focus on the basics, foundations, learning the structure of the poses and informing the body through similar movements we can create the ability to increase stability and add ease to these asanas. Add the verbs “fly” and “float” to your vocabulary as you learn how to stack bones as well as create foundation and engagement to harness the energetics of the bandhas to support your elevation from the Earth.
Bakasana (Crane), One-legged Bakasana, Rotated Bakasana as well as other arm balances will be interlaced with opportunities to explore and work on both Tripod and Basket Headstands and Pinca Mayurasana. This workshop will include discussion, preparation, specific work on several arm balances and inversions, and then an opportunity to combine these components into a challenging and rewarding flow practice.
Vinyasa flow experience helpful, but for anyone who can put a smile on their face while being challenged. Bring a towel; you’ll need it!

"Devotional Bhakti Flow"
The Divine as our Beloved
Bhakti is the path of devotion and it’s a path of relationship – how we relate to the world, each other, the Divine and ourselves. It’s a way for us to approach the mystical world in a personal way.
Once we’ve established ourselves in the asana practice, we may heed the call of the Seeker - the Bhakta - the one in devotion. The once simple physical practice becomes more subtle, more energetic – an opportunity for ritual, observance and devotion in motion.
The highest expression of Bhakti is to merge with the Divine as the Beloved; to be consumed in the overwhelming passion of the lover.
Join us in this slow, humble, sensual, intimate and safe exploration of asana as an offering, and our union as that of the Lover and Beloved. There will be Vinyasa flow, challenges and ease, breath-work and meditations and opportunity for exploration of the senses.
Flow experience helpful, but for anyone who can put a smile on his or her face while being challenged. Bring a towel; you’ll need it!

"Rock Your Bhakti!"
A workshop incorporating both rocking out and deep devotion with playful flows
Bhakti yoga is the yoga path of devotion... it can transform the physical momentum of the asana practice into something much more subtle. Vinyasa is a practice known for its vigor, if energy and for rocking good times. Linking the dynamic duality of these perspectives can translate into an exceptional experience where motion becomes devotion, and intention masters momentum.
Take yourself on a vigorous music-filled Vinyasa flow journey where setting a devotional intention transforms your practice and the asana practice itself becomes your devotional offering. Placing intention into each of our movements allows for moving meditation – the practice as physical prayer.
This workshop is an opportunity to combine these components into a challenging and rewarding flow practice focused on playfulness, strong work and devotion in motion.

"Ashtanga Vinyasa Medley: Moving Meditations & Explorations"
An opportunity to enjoy the classic form, with freestyle fun and funkiness
Vinyasa has taken on many definitions in the yoga world. Some use the word “vinyasa” to describe the chataranga-updog-downdog sequence postures, while others use it to describe fast-paced, sweat-inducing yoga classes. One definition of vinyasa is “to intelligently sequence” or as we may simply apply it in asana practice, as the “synchronicity of breath with movement.”
While the Ashtanga system emphasizes simplicity in movement at a very regulated pace, Vinyasa classes emphasize creative flow and allow for opportunity for more personal space. One might compare Ashtanga to a piece of classical music, perfect in form and presentation; then one might think of Vinyasa flow as a jazz composition, drawing on the same principles, but with some syncopation or free-style improvisation.
Too often, these completely complementary practices are put at odds; they are, however, siblings on the same family tree. Both Ashtanga and Vinyasa rely on the same Five Foundations: Asana (posture), Pranayama (breath), Bandhas (energetic locks), Drishti (focal point) and Vinyasa (intelligent linked sequencing).
This workshop will take the structure of the Ashtanga Primary Series and offer opportunities for interlaced flowing Vinyasa-style sequences. We will honor both practices, while exploring the nature of each and bringing joy and discipline to the practice.
Some Flow and Ashtanga experience is helpful; a sense of humor and play is a must!

"Yin-yasa: The Ebb and the Flow of Practice"
An exploration of Yang – Vinyasa flows – married with Yin – long-held poses – in a Symbiotic Practice
Vinyasa is a powerful practice, a good sweaty time that works to engage and heat the entire physical system. Many of us choose this as our primary practice. However, as our yoga informs us, we all need a little more balance – a little of the “other.”
Yin yoga focuses on the balance to our practice – on the deeper, underlying structural tissues and on deeper reflection and stillness. This workshop will focus on creating dynamic Vinyasa flows to open the body, to warm the long muscles and to refine the pranayama and focus. We’ll use the basics of a strong Vinyasa practice to create a warm, open and stable physical experience – one that is ready to do deeper work.
At specific points in the practice, we’ll take that nice warm form into sweet, grounded, longer-held Yin-style postures, to ensure that all of the nectar we created in the Yang practice permeates into our deepest tissues. We’ll move safely and intentionally from Yang to Yin, ending with a long, grounded Yin meditation allowing for integration and introspection.
Some Flow experience helpful – expect to move and sweat, and to sit and be.

"Celebrate the Sun – Salutations for Everyone!"
An exploration of Surya Namaskar, or Sun Salutations
Surya Namaskar, or Sun Salutations are one of the most primordial of all yoga practices. Some would say the ‘entirety of the asana practice’ is held within this elegant sequence of postures.
As the basis of all of the flow practices, and even as Yogi Bhajan’s first Kriya, Sun Salutations are universal and create commonality within all of our practices.
From your first day on the mat, to your 10,000th practice, there is always something to be learned, wisdom to gain, and refinement to practice within these easy, linked movement. We’ll break each piece down, into it’s base elements; we’ll introduce both modifications and intensifiers.
Everyone will be served, no effort on the path is wasted. Please come celebrate the sun, both the one inside of you, and the one that shines eternally.
Open and appropriate for all levels – expect to move and sweat.

"Flow Your Whole Life Long"
Sustainability in Flow-Based Practices
Flow, Vinyasa, Ashtanga, Power Yoga: whatever you call it, Flow-Based practices are fun, invigorating, a great work out; they can offer an opportunity for devotion in motion and can be practiced by yogis of all ages and sizes.
Too often, however, the vigor and excitement (and ego) overwhelm the fundamentals and we hear of yogis being injured. If we are to be honest, it’s not the practice but rather it’s the practitioner! And, let’s face it; it’s a swiftly moving practice without a lot of time to receive instruction. We can all revisit the basics, especially if we are to practice this sustainably and for the rest of our lives.
In this informative and dynamic workshop, we’ll go deeply into the fundamentals of Flow-Based Practices: Asana (postures), Pranayama (breath control), Bandhas (energetic engagement), Dristhi (focus) and Vinyasa (the sequencing and transitions within the practice).
We will integrate the trifecta of Foundation, Engagement and Expression as we explore how to be safe in some of the more dynamic transitions of the practices. Acquire practical applications that can be carried into any practice in order to build greater stability and core.
Great for Ashtangis and Vinyasans - flow experience necessary; some lecture, primarily applied practice.

"WholeHearted Flow – Expand into Love"
An exploration of wholeheartedness: centering, purpose, meaning, authenticity and connection.
This workshop will focus on creating dynamic Vinyasa flows to open the body, to warm the long muscles and to refine the pranayama and focus. We’ll use the basics of a strong Vinyasa practice to dive deeply into a wholehearted practice.
This practice will be the vehicle to explore the inner landscape, giving time and attention to our selves, our Self, discernment, expansion, connection, and building a sense of personal authenticity.
Just before we lose ourselves in the sweetness, we’ll close down with some soft, grounded, longer held, meditative postures, to ensure that all of the discernment and opening work has time to coalesce into purpose and meaning.
There will be sweat, laughter, tears, time for reflection and time for introspection... come to find your purpose, your heart and your wholeness.
All levels are welcome, some Flow experience helpful: open to anyone who can be joyful and reverent – expect to move and sweat, and to sit and be.

"Chakra Meditation"
An Interpersonal Journey of Discovery
Using the Chakra system and it's rich imagery, we'll create an interpersonal 'road map' for discovery.
This guided meditation will be not only a journey, but also an experience in personal alchemy. We will focus on moving our energy from the base to more refined; elevating our leaden existence into our golden potential.
It's not uncommon for us to be 'stuck' or feel 'excessive' in qualities, traits and our internal emotional aspects. Accessing and exploring the Chakra system through guided meditation can be one way to clarify our own issues - to see ourselves in both our Shine and our Shadows, and to transform ourselves by attuning to our natural state, and working to optimize ourselves.
This workshop will include a discussion and overview of the Chakras, a guided meditation with time for contemplation and integration, and time for questions and sharing.
Let's take the trip; let's make ourselves golden!

"Mediation Sampler"
It's Not Just Before Breakfast Anymore!
Meditation - does that conjure up images of sitting alone in the dark in the wee hours of the morning, desperately trying to 'cease the fluctuations of your mind'...
Many have tried, many have failed... but, there's more than one way in, and some of them are downright fun and playful.
During this Meditation Sampler, we'll explore a few modalities for creating single-pointed-purposefulness. We will start with a discussion that honors the tradition, but with a focus on our modern lives and how to create that connection in a practical, daily way.
We will start with Walking Meditation and some variants, then proceed to Jaap-ji (repetition of Mantras as Meditation), and then explore basic Pranayama (breathing techniques) to create a Meditative state for contemplation.
There will be time for Q & A, and sharing will be encouraged.
Come, meditate outside the box, and get inside your highest self!

"Mindfulness On & Off Your Mat"
Practice, Purpose & Passion!
Meditation - it can be elusive, or seem esoteric. The good news, it's just like an asana practice; you keep applying effort, the skills grow and you will feel the benefits!
Mindfulness is a nice way to approach a new Meditation practice. This experiential seminar will include discussion, Q&A, an exploration of Mindfulness, Meditation - and the benefits and practices of each - and a time for sharing.
A daily Mindfulness practice is not hard to cultivate - in fact, it takes no more discipline than an asana practice. Yet, without some 'adjustments' and comments on 'alignment', it can be frustrating. However, the benefits reach far beyond our practice - helping us generate purpose and align with passion.
We will explore a few, differing approaches towards establishing a Mindfulness Meditation practice, leaving time for contemplation and reflection, as well as a period for questions.
Meet me there!

"Shadow and Shine – Seasonal Change Practices"
An exploration of both the depths and the heights…
Imbolc - Groundhog's Day
The period around what we call Groundhog’s Day marks MidWinter’s Night, or the time halfway between the beginning of Winter and the onset of Spring. Just as it is auspicious to practice at either dawn or dusk, the changing of the seasons can bring powerful subtlety to our practice.
Coming out of hibernation, looking to the fertile season, and deciding what we will sow in order to reap what we intend. Let’s see if we can make enough Shine to see our own Shadows, and make a shift.
Everyone will be served, no effort on the path is wasted. Please come celebrate the sun, both the one inside of you, and the one that shines eternally. This will be a potent afternoon of White Magick, Energy Work, Crystals and Celebration, but don’t let any of that put you off – we’re gonna flow, have fun, talk broadly and dwell deep!
Discussion, Experience, Asana, Sharing, Meditation: open and appropriate for all levels – expect to move and sweat.
Ostara - Eastertime
The period around what we think of as the onset of Spring, the celebration of birth and rebirth, marks the transition from the planting season to the first fullness. The occurrence of the Vernal Equinox marks Ostara in the Celtic calendar: one of the eight-spoke days of the Solar Year - the time where day and night share equally. Just as it is auspicious to practice at either dawn or dusk of each or any day, the changing of the seasons can bring powerful subtlety to our practice on an annual basis as we create ritual observance.
Coming through the period of sowing and the waxing of the Sun and the Earth, looking to the growing and expansive season, and deciding what we will flourish within in order to reap what we intended.

Beltane - May Day
The period around what we call May Day marks Beltane in the Celtic calendar – one of the eight-spoke days of the Solar Year - the time halfway between the Vernal Equinox, the onset of Spring, and the beginning of Summer, the Solstice. Just as it is auspicious to practice at either dawn or dusk of the days, the changing of the seasons can bring powerful subtlety to our practice on an annual basis as we observe these ritual days.
Coming through the period of fertility and intentions sown, looking to the growing season, and deciding what we will mend and tend in order to reap what we intend. Let’s see if we can make enough Shine to see our own Shadows, and make a shift.

Litha - Summer Solstice
The period around what we call Summer Solstice marks Litha in the Celtic calendar – one of the eight-spoke days of the Solar Year - this is the midpoint, the beginning of Summer, the Solstice. Just as it is auspicious to practice at either dawn or dusk of the days, the changing of the seasons can bring powerful subtlety to our practice on an annual basis as we observe these ritual days.
Coming through the intention and effort, seeing the dazzling white shine of full Summer – Litha is the embodiment of this sizzling season, the White Lady. We have planted and tended the seedlings, now we are full in the growing season; this is where we discern, what we will continue to give our water, and then how to reap what we intend? Let’s see if we can stand firm in the Shine in order to celebrate our own Shadows.
Everyone will be served, no effort on the path is wasted. Please come celebrate the sun, both the one inside of you, and the one that shines eternally. Lughnasadh - First Week of August
