Those minor details in hand, the Wanderlust CO OTM House hosted it out last night. We were blessed to be able to throw a little get together up here at our chalet mansion, and invite all of the supporters, collaborators, community members and just some assorted excellent folks.
We gathered and shared our experiences and enthusiasm. I was joking the other night with someone that there were elements of any festival that remind me of the Grateful Dead and that lifetime of mine. One of them most sweet resonances I feel is that when you come to an event like this, you're pretty much guaranteed that the folks who will be there are 'pre-screened', or the kind of folks you want to hang with and get to know!!
That was indeed the case with these folks; we just straight up had a blast getting together, swapping tales, sharing experiences and making plans for Wanderlust Tahoe. Libations and victuals were flowing and the spirits were high - there was action on the pool table, on the foosball table, in the hot tub and a really lovely Gratitude Circle.
Kerri, the Exec Director of OTM brought us all together and took the time to acknowledge and thank all of the community that had gathered. It was very inspiring - bringing the spirit in - to hear the words, feel the gratitude and acknowledge 'playing big' but with purpose and integrity, and of course, joy!
I'm really glad I got up here - it's been nothing but excellent, even if I'm winded and can't do more than one class a day!! I'm just so happy to be sharing real, vital and exciting work with a great group of people. And, excited for tonight!
During this week, we've been really trying to work on getting the awareness out to the community regarding YOGAVOTES. One way it clarified for me yesterday was that our practice can really help us come to clarity and also to know that we must act and not move to apathy. My way of expressing this internally is "Vision, Values, Voice" and we're really trying to just encourage people to vote their values. Let's be clear, not OUR VALUES, but their values. To take their vision, use their voice and get engaged in the process.
While the major push right now is to gather pledges - so we can begin to stand together and be counted as a constituency - for folks to vote in this year's Presidential election, I would like to remind folks that this is not about a one-time engagement, but about taking it to heart. I completely agree the Presidential election is important and would love to see voter turnout at record numbers, but I want to encourage people to Play Big and Go Local... get involved in your School Board elections, in your municipal and state elections. These are as important in your daily life as the bigger picture!
Folks, we've got the privilege of franchise, we've got access to an enormous amount of information and we have a responsibility to all of the emerging and existing democracies out there to hold ourselves to the high ideals. That's yogic, and I can't believe I'm going to actually write this line - that's American!
Give thanks and praise - register to vote, then go do it!!
